is not the Law but

part of the Law

Exodus 20:1 ASV  And God

spake all these words,

saying.

That phrase introduces the utterance of the 10 commandments to the Israelites by YHWH God, not by an Angel or Messenger, even though etymologically anyone who delivers a message is a messenger but not necessarily an Angel. YHWH God spoke with Moses. His Angels never delivered messages to others. God said He communicates through the Prophets in vision. YHWH God wrote and spoke His words to Moses (EXODUS 19:11), a Prophet whom YHWH God speaks to face to face. Prophets delivered messages to the Israelites but they are not all Angels. John the Baptist is not an angel but a messenger, if we want to distinguish between messengers from Heaven and messengers from earth. This is the one who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mount Sinai, and who with our fathers received living oracles to give to us, (Acts 7:38 LEB) For if the word spoken through angels was binding and every transgression and act of disobedience received a just penalty, (Hebrews 2:2 LEB) Acts 7:38 makes sense if you understand that in the burning bush the Angel who also spoke to Moses is the Angel of YHWH God whose words carry the same weight as YHWH’s because YHWH told Moses that His Name is within His Angel (Exodus 23:20-23). YHWH also signified to Moses that he must listen to the voice of His Angel, which is His voice, carefully because His Angel is unforgiving. Here is the passage: Exodus 23:20-23 ASV  Behold, I send [an] angel before thee, to keep thee by the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.  (21)  Take ye heed before him, and hearken unto his voice; provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgression: for my name is in him.  (22)  But if thou shalt indeed hearken unto his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.  (23)  For mine angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite: and I will cut them off. At Sinai, the narrative does not say that an Angel descended on the mount hidden in a thick cloud. Read Deuteronomy 5:22-27.

Fifth WORD

Exodus 20:12 ASV  Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee.

First WORD

Exodus 20:1-3 ASV  And God spake all these words, saying,  (2)  I am Jehovah thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.  (3)  Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Sixth WORD

Exodus 20:13 ASV  Thou shalt not kill.

Second WORD

Exodus 20:4-6 ASV  Thou shalt not make unto thee a graven image, nor any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:  (5)  thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them; for I Jehovah thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate me,  (6)  and showing lovingkindness unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

Third WORD

Exodus 20:7 ASV  Thou shalt not take the name of Jehovah thy God in vain; for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Fourth WORD

Exodus 20:8-11 ASV  Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.  (9)  Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work;  (10)  but the seventh day is a sabbath unto Jehovah thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid- servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:  (11)  for in six days Jehovah made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Jehovah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Ninth WORD

Exodus 20:16 ASV  Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

Seventh WORD

Exodus 20:14 ASV  Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Eighth WORD

Exodus 20:15 ASV  Thou shalt not steal.

Tenth WORD

Exodus 20:17 ASV  Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor's.

Deuteronomy 5:22-27 LITV

(22) Jehovah spoke these Words to all your assembly on the Mount, out of the midst of the fire of the cloud and out of the thick darkness with a great voice. And He added no more; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone, and gave them to me.  (23)  And it happened, when you heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, while the mountain burned with fire, you came near to me, all the rulers of your tribes, and your elders,  (24)  and you said, Behold! Jehovah your God has made us see His glory and His greatness to us, and we have heard His voice out of the midst of the fire; we have seen today that God speaks with man, and he lives.  (25)  And then why should we die? For this great fire will consume us. If we hear the voice of Jehovah your God any more, then we shall die.  (26)  For who of all flesh that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and has lived?  (27)  You go near and hear all that Jehovah our God may say, and you shall speak to us all that Jehovah our God may speak to you. And we will hear it and do it.

Deuteronomy 4:33-36 LITV

Has a people heard the voice of God speaking from the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and lived?  (34)  Or has God gone forth to take to Himself a nation from the midst of a nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Jehovah your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?  (35)  To you it was revealed, so that you might know that Jehovah is God, and no one else besides Him.  (36)  He made you hear His voice out of the heavens, that He might discipline you; and He made you to see His great fire on earth; and you heard His Word from the midst of the fire.

Deuteronomy 5:4-5 LITV

Jehovah talked with you face to face in the mountain out of the midst of the fire.  (5)  I stood between Jehovah and you at that time to declare to you the Word of Jehovah; for you were afraid from the face of the fire, and you did not go up into the mountain, when He spoke, saying:

Exodus 19:17-20 ASV

(17) And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.  (18)  And mount Sinai, the whole of it, smoked, because Jehovah descended upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.  (19)  And when the voice of the trumpet waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.  (20)  And Jehovah came down upon mount Sinai, to the top of the mount: and Jehovah called Moses to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.
